A bright, bold page filled with some of my favourite palettes. I just love the assault of happy colours which greets your eyes. As for the overall design, the inner voice of the Designer & the Artist were battling it out on this.
It started out brilliantly. I swiped red Dylusion paint over the whole page and dabbed the same colour through a Seth Apter stencil. I took a dark red Staz-on pad and stamped a few random images and was left with a rather nice background to play with.
I cut out a green border from a scrap piece which was lying around and doodled over the top with a yellow Posca pen.
The character was selected, trimmed and assembled and glued down. Everything looked good so far.
Thought I'd try adding some bubble writing. I started out outlining in pencil but even so, by the time it was all coloured in, it all became a bit cramped. If I was doing it digitally, I would be shrinking the "misfit" word-shape down a tad.
However, that's the designer looking at it. The artist voice tells me to remember that there are no mistakes. It's all play and experimentation. And it is. I agree. To a point. There are indeed ideas in this page I want to try again even if they weren't perfectly executed here.
And it's those so called "mistakes" which are helping free me up to create my pages. I want to keep making them, and keep learning and growing.
So bring it on! Line me up another background to play with :)
