Art Journal Page: A Colourful Texture

Having watched Seth Apter's workshops on creating textured backgrounds, I finally sat down and tried it out myself. After gathering about seven different colours of acrylic paint, I set about adding texture by first applying the paint to an Index card and then dabbing onto my background.

After many, many applications in all the colours, until I had covered the whole piece, I dug out my stencils and dabbed through them using red paint. Once everything was dry, I grabbed my stamps and Staz on colours and continued adding the layers of texture. All stamps and stencils I used are from Seth, to keep the urban street art style.

To finish it off I splattered a watery mix of white acrylic paint all over.

And this is the result. I took a quick photo just in case I ruined it in the next steps. Thankfully, I didn't. But I didn't want to cover the whole background, so one simple collaged figure and a stamped quote was all it took to finish off the page.

It's very different in style to my normal pages. Always great fun to try new techniques and ideas. It all rubs off and takes my own style in varied directions. Currently I'm working on a doodled background which is taking so long, I am questioning whether to leave it as is or cover it up. I will share my decision in my next post.
